Wives are leaving husbands for refugee lovers after giving birth to their children, Ukrainian official says

Official says Ukrainian women are bonding with refugees and eventually abandoning their families to be with them

The Ukrainian parliament's commissioner for human rights, Lyudmyla Denisova, has urged that "men are starting to come out of the shadows."

Ukrainian women are allegedly leaving their husbands to be with refugee men, according to a government official. The commissioner for human rights in Ukraine, Lyudmyla Denisova, has urged that "men are starting to come out of the shadows," and that although there is no data on the number of families who have split, she has "numerous" letters about it.

Denisova said she had received letters from Ukrainian men on the front lines complaining that their wives had abandoned them. One such letter said that a refugee from eastern Ukraine had “taken the author’s wife out of the family, leaving him with two young children.”

Denisova says that the main reason for the breakups is that women are developing strong bonds with refugees who are often very helpful and supportive, in contrast to the men who have been sent to fight in the war.
