Minnesota Twins Cbs Sports Network Pitcher Catcher Kansas City Royals

Twins' Catcher Ryan Jeffers Acquired by Royals

Trade Brings Playoffs Hopes to Kansas City

Royals Obtain Much-Needed Backstop

The Minnesota Twins have dealt catcher Ryan Jeffers to the Kansas City Royals, the team announced Monday. The 25-year-old Jeffers was surplus to requirements in Minnesota, behind Gary Sanchez and rising prospect Matt Wallner. He will serve as the Royals' starting catcher immediately, taking over for Salvador Perez, who is on the injured list. Jeffers has a career .240 batting average with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs in 172 games. He is also a strong defender with a .990 fielding percentage.

The Royals are hoping that Jeffers can provide some stability behind the plate. Salvador Perez has been a key part of the Royals' success in recent years, but he has been injured for much of the 2023 season. Jeffers is a capable replacement, and he should be able to help the Royals compete for a playoff spot.

The Twins, meanwhile, are getting a solid return in return for Jeffers. In return, Minnesota receives a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The trade is a good move for both teams. Jeffers should help the Royals compete for a playoff spot, while the Twins add depth to their catching corp.
