WATCH: West Virginia Football Press Conference From Game Vs. Penn State

An unranked West Virginia squad traveled to raucous Beaver Stadium and came out with a Friday night shocker, beating 17th-ranked Penn State 33-13. JT Daniels threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Johnson Jr. torched the Nittany Lions’ secondary for 108 yards receiving, and the Mountaineers’ defense forced four turnovers.

Sean Clifford threw for 203 yards and one touchdown for Penn State, but he also threw two interceptions. The Nittany Lions’ offense was able to move the ball at times, but they made critical mistakes in key moments and failed to capitalize on their chances.

The win was a huge upset for West Virginia, who was not given much of a chance to win the game by most pundits. Penn State entered the season ranked in the top 20 by both the AP and Coaches polls, while West Virginia was unranked. But Neal Brown's Mountaineers played with great heart and determination, and they were able to pull off the upset.

Key Stats:

  • JT Daniels: 214 passing yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs
  • Justin Johnson Jr.: 108 receiving yards, 1 TD
  • Sean Clifford: 203 passing yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs
